About Us - We
want to go to the Moon, to stay!

|
Lunar
Reclamation
Society,
Artemis
Society
International,
& The
Moon Society
- In October of 1995,
Artemis Society International, then headquartered in
Huntsville, AL, and the Lunar Reclamation Society, based
in Milwaukee, WI, entered into an agreement whereby LRS'
monthly newsletter, Moon Miners' Manifesto, would come to
all Artemis Society members as a membership benefit. ASI
had been having considerable trouble fielding its own
newsletter, Pleiades, on a regular basis. By this
agreement, the "Pleiades International Report" now became
a regular section of MMM. MMM's focus was on the Moon, on
enterprise-based outposts and settlements, and this was a
perfect match.
- MMM's
masthead asserts "Expanding
the Human Economy through Off-Planet Resources; the early
era of heavy reliance on Lunar materials; earliest use of
Mars system and asteroidal resources; and the
establishment of the permanent settlements necessary to
support such an economy."
- ASI
declares "we are dedicated
to overcoming the business, financial, and technological
challenges necessary to establish a permanent,
self-sustaining human presence on the Moon"
- In
July 2000, The
Moon Society, ASI's newly organized sister
organization, took over Member Services and the Chapter
Family from the Artemis Society, which remains (sharing
members) to concentrate on the Artemis Project.
Pleiades is replaced by the Moon Society Journal as the
centerfold four page section of each issue of
MMM.
Moon
Miners' Manifesto
- The Moon Society Journal
(replacing Pleiades) as a section of MMM, has received
only sporadic support from ASI and/or Moon Society
headquarters and the balance of the membership in the
past. In June 2001, The Moon Society and LRS collaborated
to make MMM
available by PDF file from a
password-accessed webpage. The motivation was to make MMM
less expensive for overseas members. But this new product
is now available to any Moon Society member when they
subscribe or renew by chosing the pdf option.
- Room for improvement:
we
can ferret out new regular
or frequent "feature contributors" for example.
- The bottom line
is
that The Moon Society
Journal must get the message out to MMM readers, that the
Artemis Project and a human return to the Moon to
stay is more than a dream! It is alive, healthy, making
progress, and on track? How do we do this? That is
Mission One.
- Moon Society Chapters &
Outposts Area
- in fall 2002, a special
area of the Moon Society Journal pages in MMM was set
aside for Chapter/Outpost use. Efforts will be made to
encourage Chapters and Outposts to take advantage of this
free service.
MSMO & the Lunar
Reclamation Society
- For seven years,
"ASI-Milwaukee" (our name prior to 10/16/02) has been
little more than an informal "other hat" worn by the crew
that edits, prints, collates, and mails the monthly
newsletter.
- Our mission,
has
been to improve the quality
of MMM "to make it better serve as the newsletter of The
Moon Society." And we have striven to do so.
- Especially involved
in
this effort have been Editor
Peter Kokh, Business & Circulation Manager Mark
Kaehny, and Collating & Mailing Coordinator Charlotte
Dupree, with tireless assistance from her mother, Carol
Nelson, LRS Vice President & Treasurer Robert
Bialecki, and database/mailing label producer Joe
Mackowski.
MSMO & The Moon
Society
- It is time for the Moon
Society Milwaukee Outpost to be more than an informal
newsletter team. The service we have been providing
first to Artemis Society International and now to the
Moon Society (its successor in Member Services) is an
important one. But it is time to become "a real
all-around Moon Society chapter", and that means
recruiting inew members, not necessarily all jointly
shared with the venerable Lunar Reclamation
Society.
- We
are currently shy of full
chapter status which requires 3 members, and are
operating as "a chapter-in-formation".
- Our
Purposes should
expand to include:
- Recruiting:
Finding
new members for The Moon
Society
- Developing New Display
& Outreach
Products
to be shared with other
ASI/Moon Society chapters
- Supporting the Moon
Society Mission
in
whatever new ways we
can
- We must stand on our
own, and
grow to strive for these
goals
The Moon
Society Milwaukee Outpost
is now
"for
real!"
How to Join the Moon
Society Milwaukee Outpost
- Two Levels of
Membership:
- Moon
Society
Membership: only those MSMO members who are also
current dues-paying members of the Moon Society count
towards the minimum of five needed to receive a Moon
Society Chapter Charter. Less than that and we
continue to function as a "chapter in formation" or
"Outpost." See below for how to join the Moon
Society.
- Local
Membership: in
the spirirt of the Right of Free Association, we
welcome any and all support in our Outpost projects
and activities by those who for any reason are
unwilling or unable to become members of the Moon
Society. Local Members pay no dues, but
contributions towards the cost of projects is both
voluntary and welcome, at whatever level the
individual is comfortable with.

has taken over Member Services from the still existing
Artemis Society
